$75K Says Roy Hibbert is ‘No Homo’

Roy Denzil Hibbert has “fuck you” money and he wants everyone to know it. After a definitive win over the Miami Heat on Saturday night, Hibbert was feeling, well, cocky (for lack of a better term) when he uttered the words, “no homo” during a post game press conference. In urban culture, the term means that the person is not a homosexual and it usually proceeds some sort of term of endearment from one man to another.

In this case, Hibbert was talking about his defensive performance in past games, and although several sports analysts have said that he made the statement because he was being complimentary towards Lebron James, that wasn’t the case at all. Indeed, Hibbert was praising James’ performance on the court before the “gay slur”, but it was actually his own poor choice of words during that statement which made him feel like he had to follow it up with the $75K afterthought.

Hibbert said James had “stretched” him out on the court, which unbeknownst to most white, middle-aged sports reporters, is also used in urban terminology to mean, well, you can imagine what it means. Judging from Hibbert’s demeanor right after the statement, it would seem that many people in the press room were giggling like little school girls right along with him. However, I’m sure the giggling came to an abrupt stop when he reffered to everyone in the room as “motherfuckers” when asked why he came in 10th as defensive player of the year. Truth is, he should have been voted lower. Hibbert is a huge asshole (and so is Shaq)! No racist.

Hibbert’s “apology” -
“I am apologizing for insensitive remarks made during the postgame press conference after our victory over Miami Saturday night. They were disrespectful and offensive and not a reflection of my personal views. I used a slang term that is not appropriate in any setting, private or public, and the language I used definitely has no place in a public forum, especially over live television. I apologize to those who I have offended, to our fans and to the Pacers’ organization.”

The NBA’s statement:
“We are disappointed by Hibbert’s comments, as that kind of language is disrespectful, has no place in sports and is antithetical to the NBA’s policies. As an official partner of the NBA and NBPA, Athlete Ally works closely with the league on delivering trainings and workshops to educate players about LGBT inclusion and respect. The league is undoubtedly a leader in this area, and Roy’s statement of apology clearly recognizes the harms of his comments.
